Between attending college, endless touring, and writing, recording and releasing his debut album, Trevor Powers, the 22-year-old Boise native behind Youth Lagoon, has had an incredibly busy year. Earning critical praise and rave reviews, Youth Lagoon’s debut album, The Year of Hibernation, is full of dreamy melodies, artful arrangements, and wistful yearning, all tinged with an undercurrent of tangible anxiety.
“Montana”, the evocative and epic first music video from the album, is a pitch-perfect complement to the song’s haunting melody, achingly nostalgic lyrics, and hazily distant vocals that combine to create an air of palpable tension, culminating in a powerful and delicately layered crescendo that conveys just as much anxiety as it does catharsis.
