THE ARBOR (2010):
Director Clio Barnard brings us into the world of the late Bradford playwright Andrea Dunbar in this documentary. Winning Top Documentary Award in the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival in the Juried World Competition, The Arbor is the housing project in Northern England where Dunbar grew up, named her first play after, and based her work after. Barnard adapts Dunbar’s play The Arbor for the screen through using actors to lip synch to audio interviews with Dunbar’s family, friends, and neighbors conducted for two years. Dunbar’s unique life is exemplified in this documentary’s attention to details or the breath that comes out of each character.
